The Building of a Community
The building of churches, homes, or retreat spaces has functioned as a way to allow people to share their beliefs with each other. Other buildings also helped to support church, including the manses that housed the ministers of the Presbyterian Church. These places oftentimes represented the epicenter of community activities in smaller towns. In larger cities, congregations built imposing structures in order to make a presence in their new home. For many, the establishment of such spaces merited joy and pride.
