Paul the Jew

Description
The apostle Paul is widely considered the hero of (Protestant) Christianity, who defended the universal gospel, whose core message is that we all equally receive God’s salvation by grace through faith in Jesus. Yet, this view often comes with two underlying contrasts: (1) the universalism of Christianity vs. the particularism/nationalism of Judaism, and (2) Christianity as a religion of grace vs. Judaism as a religion of works-righteousness. These two assumptions have faced critical examination in recent scholarship from various perspectives. In our EBW conversation, we will explore some of the new ways to understand Paul the Jew in his context and their implications for churches and Christians.
